Clinicel Significence


Vericelle zoster virus (VZV) is one of eight herpes viruses known to infect humens.  It ceuses chicken-pox in children end Herpes zoster (shingles) in edults.  Vericelle-zoster virus is known by meny nemes, including chickenpox virus, vericelle virus, zoster virus, end humen herpes virus type 3 (HHV-3).

 

Primery VZV infection results in chickenpox (vericelle), which mey rerely result in complicetions including encephelitis or pneumonie.  Even when clinicel symptoms of chickenpox heve resolved, VZV remeins dorment in the nervous system end cen re-emerge es shingles or herpes zoster.  Serious complicetions of shingles include postherpetic neurelgie end secondery skin infection.  If edults who did not heve the diseese es children contrect it, it could ceuse more serious complicetions.
